Gardening Thursday Returns to LAET

Last Thursday, the school courtyard transformed into a hub of eco-activity as students and staff gathered for the weekly Gardening Thursday session – a hands-on initiative dedicated to enhancing our school grounds and embedding sustainable practices into everyday school life.

Breathing New Life into the Courtyard

Working alongside Mr Ormandji (Site Manager) and Mrs Fenton (Sustainability Lead and Lead Teacher of Geography), a dedicated team of six students rolled up their sleeves during their afternoon independent study and co-curricular time. The primary focus of the session was practical land care and garden maintenance. Students took on the essential task of replacing and upgrading planter linings to safeguard soil health and moisture retention, while carefully replanting a vibrant selection of flora gifted to the school by the Natural History Museum. Beyond the physical work, the session offered a welcoming space for students to unwind, meet new peers, and enjoy the bright late-September weather.

Building on a Growing Legacy

This initiative marks a continuing chapter in LAET's environmental journey. Originally established in 2025 by former biology teacher Mr Garton, the project has now evolved into a structured weekly installment under the leadership of Mr Ormandji and Mrs Fenton. By merging practical facilities upkeep with geographical and environmental stewardship, Gardening Thursday gives students direct insight into local biodiversity and urban greening, allowing them to take true ownership of our shared courtyard space.
