International Women’s Day Events

by Lilia Cauchemez-Turmanidze (Y13) FemSoc leader

In honour of International Women’s Day, we held a rich programme of events and activities during March, led by students from FemSoc and the Sports Society.

Student Talks

The programme began with an assembly from Suraya George (Y13) on the importance of intersectionality within feminism and Niki Nahavandi’s (Y12) ‘Crash Course in Feminism’ Personal Development session.

Appreciation Notes
Once the notes were signed and sealed by their writers, they were later hand-delivered by members of FemSoc to each form class and teacher.

Our first celebratory event was Appreciation Notes to girls and women. This allowed us to celebrate female friendships and thank the women in our school for their wonderful teaching.

Panel Talk

Eva Trayler (Y12) organised a panel talk designed to celebrate women in male-dominated industries, including law, medicine, finance and leadership roles. This was an extremely valuable discussion which shed light on the covert sexism faced in the workplace and the panellists' personal lived experiences.

The panel featured an inspiring lineup of professionals: Kate Pert, Senior Complex Claims Consultant; Dr Monica Doshi, GP and Hospital ENT Specialist; Emma Jarvis, Partner at BDO; and Cath Ritman Smith, Head of Learning and Engagement at Young V&A.

Pyjama Day & Movie Night
FemSoc members devised a Pyjama Day as a creative means of fundraising for the breast cancer charity event, "The Moonwalk."

We ended with Pyjama Day, in which the student body came together to raise money for the breast cancer charity event ‘The Moonwalk’. This was paired with a Movie Night showcasing ‘Legally Blonde’, a comedy challenging people’s perceptions of femininity and success.
